Computer Aided Manufacturing workshop Day 1.

Unit 9 together with degree unit d started a two day workshop on computer aided manufacturing.

January 09, 2006

Computer Aided Manufacturing Workshop, Diploma 9, Degree D

Dear Students

On Thursday 12th and Friday 13th there will be a workshop given on Computer Aided Manufacturing techniques.
This work shop will be for Diploma Unit 9 and Degree Unit D.
In this workshop we will give a brief introduction on these techniques and you will be shown how to prepare digital files for these outputs.
This workshop will be a repeat of what Andrew, Sibyl, and Taesik took part in at the AA in November.

This workshop is mandatory for all.
We will start at 10:30

In order to take part you need to bring:

1. an extension lead. You will need to plug in to something!!! These are very important!!!!!!!!!

2. your lap-top with rhino 3d installed. If you do not have it installed there will be time to do this on the day. Unfortunately there is no Rhino for Mac's sorry!

3. bring a usb storage device to transfer files, and additional burnable cd's or dvd's. just in case!!!

4. bring a digital model of your project to work with. this is a good thing to have but not necessary to learn these techniques.

5. your brain!!!!

If you are running a Mac, you can try to get virtual PC put on your machine to run rhino, but there is no guarantee that it will run with out glitches.
Thought you have a few days to arrange a PC to use over those few days.

If you can not make it we need to know by Wednesday morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Schedule Up-Date! There are changes!!!!

Download file
Everyone!!!
Down load the pdf that is posted here and get yourselves aware of the schedule for the remainder of the year.
The original dates for the Easter break have changed so have the dates for the mid review.
You have been warned!!

First Term Attendance!!!!!!!

This is the attendance list for the first term! Have a look to see how attentive you have been! Some of you may want to take a moment to ask yourselves if studying architecture is what you really want to do!!! Think about it!!!!!!!!!!

TERM 2 STARTS!!!!

Dear Students,

Lest start the term off with some discipline and production!
We will have tutorials on Tuesday!

There will be a schedule posted for the 2nd term in the first week.
Read it and start to organize your time accordingly.

There is a plan to have a work shop with Diploma Unit 9 on Thursday and Friday of this week. This will be a work shop on Computational Manufacturing Processes. It will start on Thursday and run through Friday. In order to take part you will need Rhino 3d installed on your laptops. It would also help to have a digital model to work with.
More information on this will be given mid week.

The blog!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are required to have updated your blog weekly!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting very angry about the lack of use and for the continued disregard to the written request by me asking for you to post your recent work.
You were shown how to use the blog 3 months ago and only a handful of you have taken it seriously.
If it is too much for you to use the blog let me know on Tuesday!!!!!
Otherwise start posting your work and those of you that are having image problems on the site FIX IT!!!!!!!!!

This Tuesday, you should be able to show a comprehensive understanding of the site, photos, plans, sections, elevations, maps and diagrams. A translation of your analytical drawing techniques on the site possibly showing what the latent dynamics of the site, also a use of the 3d techniques on the site as well. You should also have digested the brief and started to develop some concepts of what the LIGHTNESS HOUSE is. What is a private house? How does the typology of the private house fit into the site you have chosen? For 3rd years how are you dealing with the demand for 3 units?
If you have not engaged with these yet you are probably already at risk of falling dangerously behind this term!

The tutorials list for Tuesday is:

Blog Use!

Dear students,

We will expect to see progress of the work posted on the blog by Thursday the 5th.
Most of you have not posted anything since November. In order to have a fruitful discussion about your work on Tuesday you may want to give us a preview of what to expect. Do this through the blog.

Best

Jeff
