uniteD & NEOCORTEX are up......

Dear students,

The uniteD and NEOCORTEX group blogs are up and ready for you to access and post work.
I am still waiting for the other 2 remaining teams to get it together and name there group.
Hey you people it is not like you are naming a child; now that has consequences if you get it wrong. It is just a name to work under.
To access the group blog use the same login that you would for you own page. You should be able to access both blogs.

material fee!

Dear students,

Well if you thought that I was angry about the lack of attendance on last Tuesday…. To my surprise I was informed today that over half of the unit has not paid the 100 pound studio material fee.

The following people are down as not having paid the fee;

Jeremy
Mubina
Carolyn
Magdalena
Wilson
Michelle
Mario
Bruna
Jaspal
Aras
Taesik
Anthony

We are at the end of the term and I am tired of reminding you to pay this fee!
I see this as a conscious effort on your part to screw up how the unit is taught and run. So I will give all of those the opportunity to pay the fee tomorrow Friday the 1st of December.
After tomorrow if you have not paid the fee you will not be seen by Tom or I until it has been.

Best,

Jeff

For Friday the 1st!

Dear Students,

This Friday we will be having tutorials.
The tutorials will be by teams.

Remember to print put the work! I do not want to look at your screens tomorrow.
Also don’t forget your site diaries (2nd years) and building appraisals (3rd years)!
Teams 2 & 3, what is the team name? Have it tomorrow.

The rest of the year starts NOW!

Dear
Mr. Anthony Zafeiropoulos, Mr. Aras Burak Sen, Ms. Bara Safarova, Ms. Bruna Carvalho, Mr. Chang Liu, Mr. Franco Valentino Calligaro, Mr. Jaspal Chana, Mr. Jonathan Jordan, Mr. Richard Hale, Mr. Taesik Seo, Ms. Carolyn Garden, Mr. Eisuke Kumagai,Mr. Jeremy Volney, Mr. Ketankumar Trivedi, Ms. Magdalena Glowka, Mr. Mariusz Kaluski, Ms. Michelle Tabios Tacdol, Ms. Mubina Fattoum, Mr. Thomas Clarke,
and Mr. Wilson Lam

I do not know what happened today! But neither Tom nor I will tolerate this lack of regard for our time and effort in arranging and executing the Units Program. If you want to get on our bad sides this is definitely the way to go.
I do not want to hear any apologies from any of you for today! If you want to apologies to anyone try you team members and unit mates.
Both Tom and I get the impression that none of you are taking this phase of work very seriously. Well you had all better start taking everything very seriously with regards to the Unit work from today until the day after the end of year show in July.
I expect all of you to start acting like serious and committed architecture students!
If any of you have problem with this request and for the reaction to the situation that was drawn out of me today please feel free to speak with Mark Hayduk.

I expect since over half of you didn’t show up and a large portion of you decided that showing up late was more important than being on time, that you are all working well together and producing vast amounts work about the site and are starting to build up strong critical positions about the site and the typology of the multifamily dwelling, right? No not yet…. Well you had better have things by Friday and they had better be of a high quality in intellect and graphic skill.
Also, due to today’s slip in rigour we will be having a pin-up when I get back from my trip with Diploma Unit 9. This pin-up will take place on the last day of term, Friday December 15th. So change your tickets! The term is not ending early!
This Friday there will be tutorials. I will be emailing out a list of times for the team tutorials, so be on the lookout Thursday. In addition to the unit work I would also like to see where everyone is with there technical studies submissions. Site diaries (2nd years) and building appraisals (3rd years), I want to see your progress on both!
One thing that I will let you in on for this Friday, I will not be looking at anyone’s computer screen! If you can’t manage to print out your work, and I don’t mean crappy A4’s, I can’t manage to view your work!
Last issue, I am tired of requesting that you all use the blog and post your work and progress. So new rule, I will be checking the blog regularly. Those that do not post weekly will not be seen for tutorials.
I have noted those that did show up at the appropriate time and those that messaged me.

So from today the rest of the year starts now!
All the best see you Friday and welcome to the demands of studying Architecture!

P.S. I have not forgotten about the single person dwelling project! Have you? I will be asking to see the progress on this very soon too!!!!

Tuesday the 28th!

Dear students

This Tuesday we will be having a drawing workshop.
This means you must have some drawings with you to pin up, on paper and of appropriate size!
We will meet at 10:30 in the unit space!
We will also sort out the team names Tuesday as well.

I hope the photo workshop was helpful to most of you. But remember this phase of work is not a photography project!
Use the photographic media more precisely and effectively!

Those that have not been attending since the unit trip that you should get in contact with your team to get this phase of work moving. If you are not contributing to the group work you can not access or claim any of the work that is produced by the group.
If you have medical issues you should contact Mark Hayduk and let him know the situation so it is on record.

See you Tuesday,

Jeff

Friday the 24th

Dear students,

This Friday we will be having a workshop with professional photographer Cristobal Palma.
Go to his website to see some of his work. www.cristobalpalma.com .

The aim of the workshop is to develop a strategic method of capturing information through your photos.
You will have to bring in the work the teams have collected so far on the site. (You should have done some site visits by now!)
So that Cristobal can get introduced to what the teams have been looking at so far.

The unit will be meeting at UEL at 10:30.
We will be going to site also and you will need to bring your cameras. So charge them and make sure you have enough free disk space, if you are working with digital.

Best,

Jeff

Friday the 3rd and Tuesday 7th.

Dear students,

This post will cover this Friday the 3rd and next Tuesday 7th.
As you should all know next Tuesday the 7th we will be having a final review of the single dwelling project. The 1st term schedule is on the web-log!!!!

There will be guests invited to the review so there are a few protocols on the day that I expect everyone to follow;
1. Be on time.
2. You must all be in attendance for the whole day. Do not disappear after you have shown your work!!!
3. We intend to start reviewing work at 10:30, this means that you must be there and already pinned up in order to not delay the start of the day.
4. If you are more then 30 minutes late you may not be able to have your work reviewed.
5. first person to arrive should start pinning up there work.

Here are some additional suggestions in preparation for the review;
1. Do not work all through the night before a review day. This does no one any good! You will be so tired you will not remember any criticism that may help your progress and you will fall a sleep during the other presentations and will miss other discussions that might be helpful.
2. Organize your time effectively and efficiently. Do not expect to be able to print out your work for the review on the day. If things can go wrong they will….. Better to get your work printed out days in advance if you can.
3. Please do not make the review panel have to look at your work on your tiny little laptop screen. Get your work on paper!!!!!!!!
4. Practice makes perfect, measure twice cut once! I suggest that you rehearse your presentation verbally and how you will pin you work in the wall. Don’t wait till the morning to figure out how to pin-up your work. This will take you more time that you think and it may distract the panel away from your project if you pin it up in the wrong sequence.
5. You have 7 days until Tuesday. That is tons of time if you use it effectively.

For Friday the 3rd.
Friday will be an in studio work day. I will be in from 10:30 and will most likely leave after lunch. I will be around to discuss your work as you are doing it and I may be able to give tutorials on a first come first serve basis. You should treat Friday as an opportunity to get on with the production of your work.

Good luck!

Jeff
