Dear Students,
Just a reminder that on Tuesday you will be expected to deliver what was asked of you to produce on Monday! We will have a progress check and desktop tutorials of some sort Tuesday. They will have to fit arround the seminars that Alan has scheduled.
Also if you have questions about the Structural Models brief speak with me. Alan Chandler did not write this brief, Dagmar from Unit C and I did.
Word has come to me that some of you have been asking Alan about what to do etc…. the brief is very clear. So get to it please.
Since there have been no emails concerning the brief for next week I assume that most of you know what to do and are getting on with it.
I think it will be a very important week for making some strides in your work and it has the potential to be fun too.
See you Tuesday!
Best
Jeff
Dear students,
Next week is the technical workshop week with Unit C!
In addition to the schedule that has been arranged for you all by Alan Chandler.
The week will also be treated as a workshop production week for both units.
Above is a pdf brief for the week that you are all expected to take part!
The week will have to be self motivated by you. Unit staff from both Unit C and Unit D will be around during the week to help guide progress.
As you will notice in the email the week starts Monday for all of you. I would take this schedule seriously and get working ASAP.
Also I would start getting materials for the week together this weekend. Real materials please!!! Crappy card and foam core will only be acceptable as formwork for other models. That stuff will be ban from the week after Monday otherwise.
Now you may think that this phase of work is premature because you don’t have a site… blah blah blah….excuses….!!!! You should have one by now! If you don’t, decide on one!!
Treat the week as an opportunity for exploration, learning and refinement.
The following week of March 9th we see our unit technical tutor Michael Hensel. I would try to take your work as far as you can before this meeting so you get the most out of it.
Best
Jeff
Dear students,
Tomorrow we will be meeting in the unit space at 10:30!
The plan for tomorrow is to have a unit meeting before we meet with the visiting professor, Rodrigo Perez de Arce, which is scheduled for 11:30.
Please be on time!
We will discuss the review tables, next week’s technical week, and the open jury that happens Friday.
Like I said in a previous message bring your portfolios tomorrow please.
On another subject, you should all check the diploma unit 9 web blog www.diploma-unit-9.net and check out how they are using it. Most of the students have there portfolios on-line. You may learn a few things.
Last thing, I believe some time next week we want make some new studio and unit space arrangements with the diploma students. We want to set it up for the remainder of the year so it makes it easier to work and be in. we will discus this more tomorrow!
Oh, and those of you that missed the open jury today, you missed a good opportunity to see what is happening.
See you tomorrow!
Jeff

Dear students,
This Friday we will be having tutorials with Michael Hensel.
You should bring all relevant work with you so that we can have productive discussion.
You should be able to discuss;
• What you will be taking forward from the first terms material, structural, spatial, formal investigations in the single person dwelling project into the Multifamily dwelling project.
• What issues / conditions you will possibly be working with based on the team site investigations and what you site is.
• What your understanding of the multifamily dwelling is and what your spatial and technical strategic intentions are.
We will be meeting in teams for these sessions and we will be starting at 12:00.
12:00, Random 5
1:15, Neocortex
2:30, UniteD
3:45, The Dogs
They are predicting that on Thursday and Friday that London will be getting a snow storm that may cause travel problems across the city.
Check the web-log and your Email to see if Friday is postponed.
Remember to practice your presentation for the review tables next week. you will have 10-15 minutes max to present your work!!!!
See you Friday!
Jeff
Dear students
I am back from a very good trip that took me to Iceland to see a project of mine under construction. Amazing how things change when vast amounts of real materials are involved! Anyway due to me being happy with the progress and my high levels of exhaustion there will be no tutorials on Friday the 2nd of February.
So then tutorials will take place on Tuesday the 6th.
We will be expecting to see progress on the individual work and we want to see your portfolio in its entirety!!!!
The times will be:
10:30 – Neocortex, just to let this team know I am not happy with the way things have been going the past few weeks! I think it may be the lack of group dynamic, or is it lack of group members…. Sort it out or I will!
11:45 –Random 5
2:00 – The Dogs
3:15 – UniteD
Those of you that decided to not attend tutorials this past week with Tom it has been noted and logged. Let’s hope it does not come back to haunt you…..
Remember Friday the 9th we will be joined by our technical tutor Michael Hensel. Do not be late, do not come empty handed, do not leave your brain at home!
You have been warned!!!
Final issue in this mail: post your progress on the blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See you then!
Jeff
