the final push!!!

Dear students,

Well the review tables are over but the year is not!

There are a few things that still must be done and a few additional things that you must be informed of.
Since you 2nd years are done i expect that you all take part in this!!!

1. Next week is the RIBA external examiners week. so on Monday we need to tidy up the studio and prepare a display of 1 or 2 second year portfolios for the external examiners.

2. Also next week we must begin the planning and building of the end of year show. Remember this is your show, so make it look good! This does not mean that you 3rd years are off the hook, we will need everyones help to get it done. Construction of the show will start on Saturday the 16th and the showcase opens on Wednesday the 20th. on Friday the 15th there is a big studio cleanup to prepare for the show building too.
Your participation is mandatory!

3. your MARKS, I believe these will be posted on the evening of the end of year show, Wed the 20th.

The final issue is your portfolios.....

In November the School of Architecture is having it's 4 year RIBA accreditation assessment. at this assessment the reviewers will need to see a selection of portfolios form this year along with previous years. Some of you may be asked to allow the school to retain your work for the assessment. after which it will be returned to you.

See you on Monday,

Jeff

UNIT TRIP

Dear students,

The dates for the unit trip to The Netherlands will be from the 12th – 17th of November.
We are setting aside Sunday the 12th and Friday the 17th for travel.
We will be meeting on Monday morning the 13th to start off on our first visit.
The cheapest way I have found to travel there is by train and ferry. If you go to these sites you can find out more.
http://www.seat61.com/Netherlands.htm#by%20rail%20&%20sea
http://www.dutchflyer.co.uk/
Place to stay:
Both Tom and I will probably stay here.
http://tourist-inn.nl/
I suggest that you self organize and arrange some of the large rooms to stay in. The larger the rooms the cheaper it will be.
Everyone should make there bookings ASAP or by next Monday. I need to know who is going and what your travel dates are for the schools travel insurance.

Best

Jeff

Computer Aided Manufacturing Workshop, Diploma 9, Degree D

Dear Students

On Thursday 12th and Friday 13th there will be a workshop given on Computer Aided Manufacturing techniques.
This work shop will be for Diploma Unit 9 and Degree Unit D.
In this workshop we will give a brief introduction on these techniques and you will be shown how to prepare digital files for these outputs.
This workshop will be a repeat of what Andrew, Sibyl, and Taesik took part in at the AA in November.

This workshop is mandatory for all.
We will start at 10:30

In order to take part you need to bring:

1. an extension lead. You will need to plug in to something!!! These are very important!!!!!!!!!

2. your lap-top with rhino 3d installed. If you do not have it installed there will be time to do this on the day. Unfortunately there is no Rhino for Mac's sorry!

3. bring a usb storage device to transfer files, and additional burnable cd's or dvd's. just in case!!!

4. bring a digital model of your project to work with. this is a good thing to have but not necessary to learn these techniques.

5. your brain!!!!

If you are running a Mac, you can try to get virtual PC put on your machine to run rhino, but there is no guarantee that it will run with out glitches.
Thought you have a few days to arrange a PC to use over those few days.

If you can not make it we need to know by Wednesday morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Schedule Up-Date! There are changes!!!!

Download file
Everyone!!!
Down load the pdf that is posted here and get yourselves aware of the schedule for the remainder of the year.
The original dates for the Easter break have changed so have the dates for the mid review.
You have been warned!!
